Spencer's Science fair Project Seems like yesterday Spencer (my friend and neighbor) was only four years old, and you can see a picture of him here watching me unloading some Indian engines I was making assessments of.
Spencer at 4 years old Tonight (2/27/2008) Spencer came over with his science project. I had showed him the Neo Ball magnet and and Aluminum pipe a month or two earlier. After this experience, Spencer wondered what was going on between the pipe and the magnet, and designed his own experiment. He found a piece of copper pipe that just slipped into another piece of aluminum pipe. He timed the drop into the alum pipe at 5 seconds, he then timed the drop in the copper pipe at 10 seconds. What would happen if he slipped the two pipes together and then dropped the magnet thru them, what time would it take, and how would that time relate to the previous drops?
And what was the result you ask?? The drop with one pipe inside the other was the sum of the two, or as close as one can tell with a stop watch. Nice job Spencer!
