Utterpower Glow Plug for PS CS engines

New 12/1/05

01/2007 Sold out, Allmand will make more in February if there is demand.

Here's the new utterpower glow plug for the Lister CS engine

Above: engine being set up for easier cold starting, 5 minute installation, and you don't have to mess up your stock plug.

Our glow plug has been in the works for some time. There are always choices to make, which glow plug, and why? How much to reveal, clearances, etc. We think we did it right.

We have invested in custom tooling, and have a CNC program made to help with the QC issues. First run of plugs is a short one, there are two in the field, and they are making one compression stroke starts with the glow on for 10 seconds. How cold can it be? What data have I collected? Not much!

these are new, the best way to prove the value, is to try it in the field. Mac McQuaid runs his Lister daily on home made fuel, due to cooler weather, Mac uses a wisp of ether and even a pony motor for cold weather starting. His name for the McGhee made plug is 'HOTSHOT', and here is what he has to say..

George ...

Still using the "hot shot" glow plug starter every morning. It is working very well. I changed oil to Amzoil and this morning it started on the first spin.
Here is the procedure I use ....

I have an "in line" fuel pump that pumps fuel from my tank to the IP.
I turn this switch on first. This might not be necessary but what the heck ... it's there so why not use it ....

Second ... I turn on the "hot shot" for 10 seconds (this is the amount of time that was required to turn the glow plug red before I installed it during my test) during this 10 second time I set the compression release and get the crank ready ...

Third .. start cranking with the "hot shot" still on.

When she starts I turn off the "hot shot"

As a side note ... I have not had to use any starting fluid since you sent the hot shot.

Like I said before ... I think you have come up with a real winner.

Here's a post that was forwarded to me:

I took this as an opportunity to test the new Utterpower glow plug I

recently purchased. Screwed it in, hooked it up, immediately started

cranking by hand, moved the compression release and bang, she fired on

the first compression stroke.  Big grin. This after complete failure

with many attempts at hand starting without the glow plug.  It's really

a nice design- the VW glow plug element tip is right at the focus of the

concave plug end  in the pre combustion chamber.

Bravo, George, for this very nice Lister enhancement.

If you were thinking you needed a starter, maybe you don't ? The combination of synthetic oil and a glow plug in the CS makes for a one compression stroke start, at least in Montana it does.

$75 each, completely assembled with new highest quality glow plug, terminal and even the proper lug.  shipping is $10

WARNING, this is for the CS Clone, NOT the variants using DI combustion systems! This is not for engines fitted with change over valves! Many of the engines made in India are a little different, some of the more recent Metex Engines have slightly different plugs, and these may not be suitable. There was some effort put the glow plug in the proper location, and methods to machine same. Some folks think the plug fitted in the intake will do a similar job, but it is a glowing red hot (newer current regulated) glow plug in the spray pattern that does the job.

Warning! you might find a defect in the threads on the outside, but nothing that will prevent them from being properly fitted! If you are looking for a plug with perfect threads, suitable for presentation and display, please add $600 to your order.

All the best,

George
